RETAINING WALLS REGS BENDIGO

CITY OF GREATER BENDIGO RETAINING WALL REGULATIONS

If you want to construct a retaining wall, you must determine whether a construction permit is needed.

A construction permit is not necessary for retaining walls that are less than one metre high as long as they are built at least that far from existing structures and any allotment boundaries.
The Greater Bendigo Council can provide you with all the specific information into retaining wall regs, but we have summarised it here for you.

When do I require a permit to build a retaining wall in Bendigo?

In these circumstances, you may need a permit:

  • Any excavations and/or filling may negatively affect any area of an adjacent allotment
  • The allotment’s ground stability is impacted by site excavations and/or site filling for the wall
  • At every place, the projected wall is one metre or taller
  • constructed at any height on or close to borders
  • Any excavations and/or fills may negatively influence any area of an adjacent structure
