SOIL EVALUATION FOR TURF INSTALL
Many sites which have been used for construction, or recent house builds have had the topsoil removed or washed away. This exposes the subsoil, such as clay. To install turf we need to provide the turf with a healthy base. If the topsoil is not present, it is advised to apply natural gypsum at a rate of 1 kg per square metre, then coat the soil mix with up to 200mm. Kruzer Earthmoving take care of all of this for our customers.
HOW IS TURF INSTALLED?
- It always pays to start the turf lay in a straight line, such as a fence, a walkway, retaining wall or a driveway
- Turf is then installed in straight lines in a brick like pattern
- Roll out the grass, making sure the rolls are securely pressed together and the edges are not overlapping
- Cutting in trees or obstacles is performed as the turf is installed
- The turf should be rolled and connected with the topsoil, no air pockets should be made, by rolling the turf it can be given firm contact with the topsoil layer

The soil is held together by the turf's fibrous root structure, which keeps it from being blown away by wind and rain. Rainwater is also slowed down by grass, which lessens the quantity of dirt that is washed away by the power of the water.
The drainage system is the most crucial component of artificial grass' substructure. An unstable or unsuitable artificial lawn may result from failing to construct a drainage system or from designing a poor one. It is advised to construct a drainage system for your lawn using a substance known as granite dust.
- Although it is conceivable, you won't get the greatest results if you instal fresh turf on top of existing grass. The condition of your lawn will decline over time as the old grass dies, thus we strongly advise against installing new turf on top of existing turf.
Add a layer of topsoil to your soil if it has been neglected over the years or if it is of low quality to offer your lawn the best chance of adjusting to its new habitat. The recommended amount of top soil for turf is four inches.
It might take up to 6 weeks for turf roots to establish a robust root system. The shallow root system forms over the course of around two weeks. This indicates that you must avoid the grass during this period to give it time to develop a root system. Prior to the first frost, you must let the lawn at least 6 weeks to develop.
After installing your grass, your new lawn will likely require its first trim approximately three weeks later. Try tugging on the grass to see whether it's ready. If the turf lifts up – wait and try again in a few days-time. It's okay to use the mower if you have a few grass clippings left behind. consequatur.
